Following Warner Bros. Discovery's streak of canceling large swaths of content, the company has confirmed it is done cutting shows.
Warner Bros. Discovery has spent months cutting movies and shows, but the company has announced that the culling is over. After the merger between Warner Bros. and Discovery, the newly merged company began reducing its roster of content, cutting shows like Infinity Train, Westworld, and Minx with impunity. Even the highly anticipated DC movie Batgirl, which had already completed production, was canceled.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Yet it appears that, despite the loss of so many productions, the turnover at Warner Bros. Discovery and HBO Max is finally at an end. While David Zaslav, the new Warner Bros. Discovery CEO, defended HBO show removals, it won't remain a common practice. In an interview with Deadline, the CFO of Warner Bros.
“We’re done with that chapter... That was very important to all of us to really use 2022 to leave the purchase accounting behind us leave those initial strategy changes behind us get it all, get it all out there in terms of our restructuring estimates, and then be able to turn the page and move forward.”Why Was Warner Bros. Discovery Cutting So Many Shows? The reality for Warner Bros. Discovery is that, after the merger, the company needed to find a way to make the purchase of Warner Bros.
What's Next For The DC Universe? With Warner Bros. Discovery finally slowing down its removals and cancelations, the DC Universe can continue without fear of future blockages. There are four confirmed upcoming DC films in 2023, all of which are scheduled to proceed as expected. The current plan has Shazam! Fury of the Gods releasing March 17, The Flash on June 16, Blue Beetle on August 18, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom on December 25.
After 2023, there is little to say where the DCU division of Warner Bros. Discovery will go. While The Flash seems primed to reorganize the entire DC universe, it was put into development long before Gunn and Safran joined as co-heads of DC Studios. DC's TV shows also seem to be in turmoil now that the TV show The Flash is coming to an end.
