This represents about a 17% increase in salary for these workers, who are often tasked with stocking store shelves and providing customer service. Store employees throughout the U.S. will make between $14 and $19 per hour starting in the beginning of March. This is an increase from the current wage range of $12 to $18 per hour, Walmart spokesperson Anne Hatfield, the retailer — the U.S.’s largest private employer — will provide the wage increase to roughly 340,000 employees. That is about 21% of Walmart’s 1.6 million workforce.
Walmart is also offering other benefits to bring in and retain its employees. The company is bolstering its, which covers college tuition and fees for part and full-time retail workers. The company is also creating more higher-paying jobs in its auto centers and recruiting truck drivers, paying up to $110,000 in the first year of being hired.
