If they can pry themselves out of Austin, Walmart employees who made up an Austin tech hub can keep their jobs and still live in Texas.

Here’s the workaround. They can move to the Dallas area and work out of the Sam’s Club innovation center.which is owned by Walmart, is not closing and that it’s creating an exception for Austin tech hub workers.

Walmart is closing three U.S. tech hubs in Austin, Carlsbad, Calif., and Portland, Ore., and is asking hundreds of workers to move to Bentonville, Ark. where Walmart is headquartered or accept severance. The few dozen Austin employees actually didn’t have a building to report to and have been working remotely.

The staff cuts that started in technology companies last year with Microsoft, Google and Amazon among others, are spreading.
