Neco Williams pays emotional tribute to grandfather who passed away night before his World Cup debut for Wales
Williams, who came through the academy system at Liverpool, added on Instagram: “He’s been everywhere around the world to watch me play football from when I first started playing at Liverpool at 6 years old.
“He’d never tell me if I had a good game because he always said I have to get better and better each day and that’s why I am where I am now! I know he’s up there watching down on me very proudly.“For everyone please cherish you have with loved ones because you never know when it can get taken away from you.”
The 21-year-old played 79 minutes of Wales’ first World Cup game since 1958, carrying on after going down with a back injury ten minutes before. Gareth Bale’s penalty came just three minutes later to cancel out Timothy Weah’s opener in a historic moment for the Dragons as they claimed a 1-1 draw in their first World Cup match for 64 years.talkSPORT will be offering wall-to-wall coverage of the 2022 World Cup
