ok but could you IMAGINE
During his appearance, Weitz talked about the almost casting at length, revealing it was Taylor herself who requested to be cast. The reason? She was a. As simple as that. Taylor and Weitz just so happened to have the same agent at the time, the director explained, so she jumped at the chance to appear in the movie.
Of course, Taylor didn’t request a big role in the film. Instead, she just wanted a simple cameo. "[She will be] someone at the cafeteria, or the diner, or whatever, but she just wants to be in this movie,” Weitz recalled their agent saying. Though it would have been iconic, unfortunately, the cameo did not pan out. "The hardest thing for me was to be like, 'The moment that Taylor Swift walks onto the screen for about five minutes, nobody is going to be able to process anything,'" Weitz said, admitting he regrets it now — partly for selfish reasons. "I was like, 'Wow, I could have been, like, hanging out with Taylor Swift, and maybe we could've been friends or something.
Jokes aside, Weitz also worries about Taylor taking offense to the rejection. "She must've just been like, 'Who is this jerk who would say no?' But sometimes, you make decisions and you go, 'This is for the best of the film,'" he added. Maybe a Taylor Swift x crossover in 2009 would have been too much for fans around the world to handle, but we're sure it's a reality in a parallel universe.
