Starting in 2019, the province began pushing their Driving Prosperity auto strategy aimed at not only keeping existing facilities but attracting new investments. To say the program has been working is an understatement. Ford announced a $1.8-billion investment in upgrading their Oakville facility, Honda announced a $1.4-billion investment in their Alliston facility while Toyota showed faith in the province by moving production of two in-demand SUVs to their facilities near Cambridge.Article contentGeneral Motors even brought production back to Oshawa in late 2021 and brought production of their BrightDrop zero emissions vehicles to Ingersoll.
