Gov. Ron DeSantis said prohibiting frail or critically ill loved ones from seeing family during the pandemic was 'fundamentally wrong.' The new law, known as the 'No Patient Left Alone Act,' requires health-care facilities to develop policies in 30 days.

State Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo said the visitation bans in other states was a"dehumanizing measure that virtually every health care facility in this country decided because of a crisis."

Besides requiring health care facilities to establish visitation procedures, it authorizes"visitation to the greatest extent possible if there are any health or safety concerns," according to the legislation. "Compassion and caring is what this bill is all about," Simone Marstiller, secretary for the state Agency for Healthcare Administration, said at the bill signing. The agency has oversight over health-care facilities.
