To celebrate the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday and recognize King’s work toward equality, the U.S. Forest Service and will waive all standard fees for all visitors to national forest and grassland day-use areas on Monday, Jan. 16. Entry to Washington State Parks is also free on Monday.

The Forest Service will waive standard recreation use fees for Forest Service-managed picnic areas, boat launches, trailheads, and visitor centers. Fees will still be charged for camping, cabin rentals, and required permits. Fees will also be charged at concessionaire-operated recreation sites unless the concessionaire chooses to waive the fees.
The U.S. Forest Service has designated five other fee-free days in 2023. Fees will be waived for Presidents’ Day , National Get Outdoors Day , Juneteenth , National Public Lands Day , and Veterans Day .Washington State Parks also waives the $10 day-pass fee on Billy Frank Junior’s Birthday , State Parks’ 110th Birthday , Earth Day , National Get Outdoors Day , Free Fishing Day , Juneteenth , National Public Lands Day , World Mental Health Day , Veterans Day , and Autumn Day .
