Oskar Rheinhardt and Max Liebermann’s first case of the new series involved a dead dress designer and a psychosexual serial killerDecember 14, 2022 10:30 pmdoesn’t half come up with some horrible deaths. The third series of the odd couple crime drama, based on the Frank Tallis book series, returned with Detective Oskar Rheinhardt and his psychoanalyst buddy Max Liebermann discovering a particularly nasty serial killer at work in the gorgeous Austrian capital.
After a young dressmaker named Adele was found dead at the design house where she worked, with apparently no injuries or signs of struggle, the chalk and cheese crimefighting duo discovered a tiny punch wound on the nape of her neck which the mortician deduced was the result of a hat pin being inserted directly into her brain.
Given that Adele had deliberately stayed behind after work, donned one of the fancy designer dresses and appeared to have had consensual sex prior to her death, Max concluded that the fatal wound was inflicted at precisely the moment of sexual climax. The discovery of another victim, killed in the same way and a taunting anonymous letter sent to Max, confirmed his suspicions that this was a killer who took sexual gratification in murder.
It was all pretty unpleasant stuff. Even seasoned investigator Oskar was shaken by it and rather nauseated by Max’s morbid fascination with the whole thing. And the mystery killer seemed equally interested in Max – confessing in a phone call to having read his book and flattering his professional skills, clearly desperate for a chance to hop on the psychiatrist’s couch himself.
With suspects including the fashion house’s sleazy photographer and the designer’s shifty husband , the hunt was on for a narcissist who just wanted to be understood.

New clinical tool for clonal hematopoiesis identifies patients at high risk for blood cancerClonal hematopoiesis (CH) is a recently characterized condition in which the genetic mutations associated with leukemia and other blood cancers are found in the blood of individuals without cancer. This pre-cancerous state is fairly common—for example, it's present in roughly 15% of people over age 65—but only a small percentage, around 4%, will go on to develop blood cancer. Because there is no robust, rigorous way to assess risk, clinicians have struggled to advise CH patients on what the future could hold.
