When the Seattle Seahawks take on the Denver Broncos in Week 1 of the 2024 regular season, it’ll be the first time the Broncos have started a rookie quarterback on opening day since some guy named John Elway in 1983. It is not, however, the first time the Seahawks have welcomed a Broncos rookie quarterback into the NFL. Let’s go into our time machine and rewind to December 3, 2006 in Denver. This was one of the first games “flexed” into Sunday Night Football under the new television package.
Cutler hadn’t played a single regular season snap prior to Plummer’s benching, and his first assignment was to beat the reigning NFC champions, albeit a shell of themselves with the offseason departures and numerous in-season injuries. Longtime Seahawks fans know that winning in Denver was nigh impossible. As of 2018, Seattle is 5-22 lifetime against the Broncos in the Mile High City. This was the latest of those five wins.
