A portion of Interstate 55 is shut down in both directions Monday afternoon after a dust storm caused a 'large crash' in south-central Illinois.
The crashes occurred around 10:55 a.m. and involved 30 commercial motor vehicles and 40 to 60 passenger cars, including two truck-tractor semi-trailers that caught fire, Illinois State Police Maj. Ryan Starrick said. The highway was shut down in both directions in Montgomery County, 75 miles north of St. Louis.
A deadly pileup on Interstate 55 in downstate Illinois was triggered after a dust storm rolled through the area. Nathan Cormier was stuck in the resulting traffic jam for hours. He joined First at Four to talk more about it.
