City officials were treated to a performance by the Sam Houston High School marching band at their Thursday morning meeting. Shortly after the meeting began, students wearing Sam Houston’s school colors stormed the chambers, wielding a variety of musical instruments. Some City Council members showcased their dance moves as the band burst into an easily identifiable rendition of the song “Have Mercy” by YouTuber-turned-actress and singer Chloe Bailey.
The event appeared to have been organized or coordinated by District 2 Councilman Jalen McKee-Rodriguez, who taught math at Sam Houston before he was elected. A 17-second video clip shared on Twitter by McKee-Rodriguez’s chief of staff, Frankie Trynoski, depicted McKee-Rodriguez and several of his colleagues, including District 3 Councilwoman Phyllis Viagran and District 7 Councilwoman Ana Sandoval, smiling broadly as they swayed to the music.
