Chinese Heritage Association of Northern Ontario hosted a Chinese Moon Festival at Bell Park on Sunday, which consisted of various cultural performances and activities
A colourful display graced Bell Park on Sunday, with the Chinese Heritage Association of Northern Ontario hosting their inaugural Chinese Moon Festival. Check out video from the event below.
Although the organization has been around for 20 years, Sunday’s festival was billed as their largest event yet.Local Immigrant Partnership chair Bela Ravi told Sunday’s crowd that the day’s event is an example of, “The rich tapestry of culture that makes Greater Sudbury what it is today.” This celebration is “ a testament to the power of unity in diversity. We are greater together, we are better together,” she said, later urging those in attendance to “Never forget where you came from.”
Also known as the Mooncake Festival and the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Chinese Moon Festival is the second-biggest annual festival in China, after Chinese New Year. The actual date for this year’s event in China is Sept. 29, and the event serves as a reunion time for families. For more on the Chinese Heritage Association of Northern Ontario, click here.
