Former New York Lieutenant Governor Brian Benjamin announced Monday that he’s withdrawing his name from the ballot in the upcoming election. He made the announcement through a video he posted on Twitter.
“I will sign the necessary paperwork to remove myself from the ballot. I am innocent of these unsubstantiated charges,” Benjamin posted “However, I would be unable to serve under these circumstances. I want to thank all of my constituents and supporters for giving me the opportunity to serve.”
Benjamin resigned last month amid a campaign finance scandal. He’s charged with bribery, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, and two counts of falsification of records. Benjamin has pled not guilty.
