Incident occurred after staff stopped serving the man when he began to show signs of impairment, and he became verbally abusive, and ended up punching a customer who stepped in.

Victoria police are trying to identify a man who punched another man in the face at a Bastion Square restaurant Monday night.

Officers learned that staff at the restaurant stopped serving the man around 8:30 p.m. when he began to show signs of impairment by drugs or alcohol. The man became verbally abusive to staff. A customer in the restaurant came forward to support staff and asked the man to leave. The man became enraged and threatened the man who came forward with a chair. A second customer stepped in and took the chair away from the man.

It looked like the man was about to leave, then without warning, he struck the first customer in the face, damaged an umbrella and left the restaurant. The assailant is approximately 35, six feet, one inch tall, with a slim build. He has short brown hair, shaved to stubble on the sides and back, and longer on top.

He was wearing a black bomber jacket, dark pants and dark shoes, and carrying a black backpack and a black bag with red piping.
