CHP responded to two fatal accidents in the Bay Area.
The California Highway Patrol reports a fatal traffic collision temporarily closed northbound Interstate Highway 880 in Oakland early Sunday morning.
CHP officers and Oakland Fire Department crews responded to reports just after 12:30 a.m. of a body in the right lane of the highway and of an overturned vehicle south of the 7th Street off-ramp. CHP issued a SigAlert at 12:53 a.m. closing all northbound lanes and diverted traffic off the highway at the exit to Interstate Highway 980.
CHP is also investigating a body found Saturday night in the roadway of eastbound Interstate Highway 580 near the San Quentin exit. Motorists reported seeing a body at 11:53 p.m. Saturday just before the approach to the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge. A driver stopped in the lane and put their vehicle hazard lights on to prevent other cars from striking the body.
