Natural and human\u002Dengineered disasters can lead to people being asked to spend, or not spend, their money for a cause as part of a boycott.
With boycotts in particular, when people go from making a personal decision not to support something to demanding that others do the same, while alleging they are morally deficient if they do not support the boycott, this form of protest often becomes problematic..An example is the recent call for a boycott of the Hogwarts Legacy video game, due to issues that some trans rights activists have with J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series of books that are the basis for the video game.
From the perspective of many feminist activists, many of whom have been sexually assaulted by men, allowing people to enter designated female spaces — whether it’s a bathroom or a prison — based on their personal declaration of their gender is a non-starter. From their perspective, viewing trans people as “less than” those whose gender matches their biological sex leads to a public safety risk.Article content
