Veteran coach Jamey DuBose is returning to Alabama from Georgia to lead Orange Beach High School's football team.
. “The timing was right for me to come back and be closer to my mom. The mayor is a great talker and seems like a great guy. I’m excited about doing something at a place that is almost brand new. Chase did a great job. In just two years, they won pretty good and set a good foundation. I’m excited to see what I can do to keep this thing rolling.”
“I see this as a great opportunity,” he said. “Someone asked me today, ‘Why Orange Beach?’ My response was, ‘Why not Orange Beach? The timing of this move is wonderful. I’m ecstatic about it.” “My mom lives in Opp,” he said. “She has been with me the last week or so. She has doctors in Pensacola and she can come stay with me. It’s a lot easier drive than where I was.”An Opp High and Troy graduate, he has been head coach at four Alabama schools. He went 10-11 in two years at Susan Moore, 45-10 with a pair of state titles in four years at Prattville, 16-8 in two years at Florence and 66-11 in six years at Central-Phenix City.
“Honestly, I missed the camaraderie of coaches in this state,” he said. “I was on several committees when I left. I enjoyed it. There are good people and good things in Georgia, but it was time to come back home. My wife needs two years to retire. This gives her the chance to come back and finish that off.”
