Veteran defensive end Ja'Gared Davis will not join Stampeders after trade voided yyc CFL
The veteran defensive end had been set to join the team after a trade with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats that sent a sixth-round pick the other way, but Davis did not pass a physical examination on Thursday morning. After Davis had sat out practice, GM/head coach Dave Dickenson explained there was some uncertainty about the physical examination, although at the time the details had not been confirmed.
“He took his physical this morning and unfortunately was unable to practice,” Dickenson explained. “The doctors are going to have a with me when we’re done here. Not what I was looking for, but when I get more information I’ll let you guys know.” Ultimately, the Stamps could use a talent like Davis after James Vaughters suffered a serious upper-body injury late in Sunday’s overtime loss to the Ottawa Redblacks.
Davis has been an elite CFL pass-rusher for over a half-decade now, winning a Grey Cup with the Stamps in 2018 and then another with the Toronto Argonauts last season. He’s also played in the championship game in every season that he’s been in the league. In 94 regular season CFL games, Davis has 49 sacks, 259 tackles and 17 tackles-for-loss. Go around the league and you just won’t find that many players who have put up those sorts of numbers over the past seven or eight years.
