A shooting that left one person injured on the outdoor basketball court at Shades Mountain Baptist Church in Vestavia Hills was an isolated incident and targeted at a specific individual, according to a statement by the church.
the shooting happened at 3:09 p.m. Sunday at the church on Columbiana Road.
The Rev. Chad Cossiboom, an executive pastor at the church, said the shooting did not happen during a church-sanctioned event. A group from the community was playing basketball on the church’s court – which is open to the public.
