Luis Guillorme’s job description with the Mets reads “be ready for anything.”
A versatile piece noted mostly for his glove throughout his career, the 27-year-old Guillorme is starting to gain attention for his bat, leaving manager Buck Showalter with tougher decisions on a daily basis about lineup construction.
“It’s a little different playing a little more than usual, but I’m just being more consistent coming off the bench,” Guillorme said. “Even when I was struggling at the beginning of the year, I felt I was hitting the ball straight at people. The main difference now is my swing is at a spot where I can repeat it. I’m swinging at pitches and having good at-bats.
“I am super happy for him,” Lindor said. “He’s ready every day, no matter what. If he enters in the seventh he’s ready. The reason he has success is he embraces his role and he wants to play every day, everybody wants to play every day, but he’s embraced his role and he’s giving it his best.” “He’s a slick infielder and it makes it easier on me,” Lindor said. “I just throw the ball and know he is going to be there [at second base]. He is very reliable.
