A pedestrian was killed when a vehicle struck them Saturday afternoon in South Anchorage’s Hillside neighborhood,Anchorage Police Department officers and Anchorage Fire Department medics responded around 1:30 p.m. to reports of the collision, police said. The crash occurred in the area of Abbott and Birch roads, not far from Service High School.
A police dispatcher reached Saturday confirmed that the pedestrian had died in the collision, but did not provide any additional information about the incident. No other information — including whether citations were issued or details about the circumstances surrounding the crash — was provided in the police department’s initial account, which was posted to social media.
Abbott Road was closed in both directions from Birch Road to Autumn Ridge Circle while investigators processed the scene, police said. Drivers were asked to use alternate routes.
