The B.C. government didn\u0027t provide a breakdown of how it expects TransLink to allocate the $479 million payment.
Brad West, chairman of the TransLink Mayors Council, said: “Had the provincial government not stepped up in the way that it has, TransLink was facing transit service cuts and fare increases, the hallmarks of a death spiral that too many other cities are falling into.”
Eby said Surrey would be accountable to local taxpayers if it chooses to divert money intended for capital spending on infrastructure to cover continuing operational spending. “Diminishing revenue sources, such as the gas tax, will not be sufficient to sustain our operations ongoing,” he told reporters.
Eby avoided answering, confirming only that “long-term stable funding is essential for our transit system.”Article content
