Giants defencemen Mazden Leslie and Carson Haynes were both notably absent from practice with Vancouver earlier this week.

Honzek, 18, missed 20 games earlier this season due to a gash on his calf, the aftermath of being stepped on by an opponent while playing for the Slovaks at the World Juniors. Despite his time away, he’s still second on the Giants in goals and points . Ty Thorpe, with his 34 goals and 65 points in 60 games, leads the way.

He joined Honzek and Giants forwards Semeniuk, Jaden Lipinski and Ty Halaburda on the NHL Central Scouting’s midseason draft rankings. The most players that the Giants have had drafted in the NHL in any one year is four, which came when Jon Blum, Michal Repik, Spencer Machacek and Tyson Sexsmith were chosen in 2007.Article content
