Metaspectral\u0027s tech can distinguish between two containers that look identical, but that are made of different materials.
This image shows how Vancouver company Metaspectral uses AI technology for recycling clients to sort previously indistinguishable materials at the polymer level in real time.The current method is using computers to determine different recyclables by their shape but this is the first time this technology will be used to sort previously inseparable plastics, said Doumet.
“There has been academic work out there that showed that it was possible, but no one really brought it to production. And the reason for that is because these sensors venerate an insane amount of dat—like terabytes a day,” said Doumet, in an interview. B.C.’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy has set aside $10 million to reduce plastic pollution in the province.
