The core of the program is a trio of works new to Vancouver audiences.
Coop is well known to Vancouver audiences for her insightful performances of standard repertoire. What may have escaped the notice of some of her fans is her commitment to Canadian works: she premiered Luengen’s Piano Concerto in 2006, and has concertos by Malcolm Forsyth and Healy Willan in her repertoire. Jean Coulthard wrote her Second Piano Sonata for Coop, who gave its U.S. premiere in Carnegie Hall.

“The Chamber Choir invites composers to submit scores. But you do have to show up in person. So I flew out to Vancouver. I’ve recently been forbidden to do this for health reasons, alas, which means I can’t attend the concert. Some parts of the songs were pointed out to me as being unreasonably demanding, so I made appropriate revisions.
