UTSA safety Clifford Chattman levels Louisiana Tech’s Charvis Thornton in the first half at Alamodome on Nov. 12.As UTSA defensive back Dywan Griffin was injured, lying on the Alamodome turf, having just fumbled away an interception during the return, safety Clifford Chattman made a prediction.
This year, Chattman has been a fixture on the back end, standing as one of 12 Roadrunners to start every game this season. He’s grabbed two interceptions, leads the team with 13 passes broken up and ranks second with 57 tackles. His experience sitting out UTSA’s historic 2021 season due to injury positioned him as a motivator for the Roadrunners standouts who are sidelined for the rest of 2022 — a group that includes safety Rashad Wisdom, wide receiver De’Corian Clark, right tackle Makai Hart and defensive lineman Brandon Matterson.
He’s also still learning and growing through his first opportunity with extending playing time, Traylor said. Chattman’s snap count this year is nearly double his first six college seasons combined.
