Oscar Cardenas has delivered a handful of indelible moments as UTSA's top tight end, while Dan Dishman is developing into a reliable second option.
Surrounded by a talented group of wideouts through every step of his career at UTSA, tight end Oscar Cardenas is rarely one of the Roadrunners’ primary targets. But for two straight seasons, Cardenas has been on the receiving end of the year’s most memorable catches.
Cardenas delivered another highlight just one game later, pulling in a career-long 54-yard pass over the middle and sending a UAB defender crashing to the turf with a punishing stiff arm. Cardenas has ramped up his productivity each year, from three receptions for 46 yards in his first full season in 2020, to 16 catches for 233 yards and two scores in 2021, to 31 grabs for 438 yards and two touchdowns last season.
In a UTSA offense that plays two tight ends on close to half of its snaps, Dan Dishman was most often the second option last season, notching 13 receptions for 154 yards and a touchdown as a redshirt sophomore. “In high school, I came out as a receiver, and I had to put on a lot of weight,” Dishman said. “I think I can be elite if I really got good at blocking.”
