UTSA baseball advances to Conference USA championship game, beating Southern Miss

After knocking off the top-seeded Golden Eagles for a second straight day following a 7-6 win Friday, the No. 5 seed Roadrunners will face either second-seeded Louisiana Tech or third-seeded Old Dominion at 1 p.m. Sunday. Even with a loss Sunday, the Roadrunners are in contention to earn an at-large selection to the NCAA Tournament when the field is announced Monday.
Ryan Ward threw a scoreless first inning for UTSA, and Daniel Garza worked through five shutout innings before running into trouble in the seventh. Three straight singles brought home Southern Miss’ first run, and a walk loaded the bases again with no outs. But Garza limited the damage, allowing one run to score on a fielder’s choice before escaping the jam with a double play.
