Utah has a meek voluntary target of getting to 20% renewable power by 2025, but it should be a lot more, writes the Tribune Editorial Board. SITLA would be a good example to follow.

Wind turbines, solar panels, and hog farms north of Milford on Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2021.The official motto of the state of Utah is “Industry.” Which, more cynically, might be read as “Follow the Money.”Utah would have a lot to gain, both economically and environmentally, if its business and political leaders would seize what is clearly a giant potential for the state’s private and public sectors to move away from their dependence on fossil fuels and toward renewable sources of energy.

SITLA’s statutory charge is to turn those lands — through leases, swaps, sales or other deals — into the greatest possible amount of cash to support the state’s public schools and a few other public service organizations. Its mission is to raise money, not awareness or social responsibility.SITLA reports

The bulk of that development so far is in Beaver and Millard counties, communities that have not shared in the economic boom found in the Provo-to-Ogden corridor and could really use the boost in jobs and tax base.
