Utah farmers and ranchers are being offered $2,000 vouchers to seek mental and behavioral health services in an effort to help farmers who struggle with conditions from stress to suicidal thoughts. Cristina2News

, farmers and ranchers are living with a tremendous amount of stress about their livelihoods.

Caroline Hargraves, director of marketing and economic development at UDAF, said dealing with the unpredictability of weather is just one reason farmers and ranchers struggle emotionally. Intergenerational land transfer of farms and loss of land is also a big struggle and takes a big toll on farming families."I think people would be shocked to know how little of the money we spend at the grocery store actually makes its way to the people growing and producing our food," Hargraves said.

Suicide and mental health are not topics farmers like to talk about, but Hargraves hopes they will be encouraged by the voucher.to learn more about how the voucher can help. For farmers or ranchers who don't have a regular doctor or healthcare provider, UDAF can help make that connection.JOIN THE CONVERSATION (
