The U.S. has thrown its weight behind India's claim to the Arunachal Pradesh region, a move that has further intensified the border feud between the two Asian giants, China and India.'The United States recognizes Arunachal Pradesh as Indian territory and we strongly oppose any unilateral attempts to advance territorial claims by incursions or encroachments, military or civilian, across the Line of Actual Control,' U.S. State Department spokesperson Vedant Patel said on Wednesday.
Beijing and New Delhi have held 21 rounds of talks to resolve the ongoing military stand-off, with the most recent discussions on February 19 at the Chushul-Moldo border meeting point in Eastern Ladakh.Newsweek contacted China's Embassy in Washington, D.C. for comment.The Chinese foreign ministry on Thursday opposed the comments by a State Department spokesperson backing India.'China strongly deplores and firmly opposes this. The China-India boundary has never been delimited.
