STORY CONTINUES BELOW THESE SALTWIRE VIDEOSWASHINGTON - The United States sees viable routes to export Ukrainian grain through the country's territorial waters and overland after Russia withdrew from the grain deal, a senior U.S. official said, adding that they aim to return to exporting at prewar averages from Ukraine over the next months.
Ukraine is a global major grain grower and exporter and normally ships millions of metric tons of food from its deep-water Black Sea ports of Odesa and Mykolaiv, but has had to rely on its Danube River ports after Russia pulled out of the deal last month. Russia has blockaded Ukrainian ports since it invaded its neighbor in February 2022, and has threatened to treat all vessels as potential military targets after pulling out of a U.N.-backed safe passage deal.

BOJ will keep current policy until at least July 2024, most economists say: Reuters pollThe Bank of Japan will start downscaling its massive monetary easing only in a year's time, the majority of economists said in a Reuters poll, as speculation for further policy shifts abated after a surprise yield control tweak last month. At the July 27-28 meeting, the BOJ modified its yield curve control (YCC) scheme and allowed interest rates to rise more flexibly, a measure officially targeted to sustain easing but seen by markets as a prelude to dismantling decades of stimulus. Only one of 22 economists, or 5%, expected the BOJ to start unwinding its ultra-easy policy this year, the Aug 15-23 poll found, significantly down from 50% in a July survey.
