Europe to get dozens of high-accuracy tactical nukes ahead of schedule from US, amid escalating tensions with Moscow
The weapons will be kept for potential use by bomber and fighter jets owned by the US and its allies.Pentagon spokesman Brig. Gen. Patrick Ryder told the outlet the upgrade has been "underway for years" to "responsibly swap out older weapons".
Backing these claims, Lloyd Austin, the US defence secretary, suggested the US had no reason to make a show of force to the east. Mr Austin added: "We are certainly concerned about escalation, we have been so from the very beginning of this conflict. It would be the first time that a nuclear weapon has been used in over 70 years."It comes after Putin rehearsed wiping Britain and the US off the map in chilling World War 3 drills, according to Colonel Igor Korotchenko, editor-in-chief of Russia’s National Defence magazine.
