This recommendation comes after the DoJ alleged that Boeing breached a settlement agreement related to two fatal crashes of its 737 Max aircraft, which resulted in the deaths of 346 people.

These incidents, involving Boeing’s 737 Max airplane, occurred within six months of each other: the first with Indonesia’s Lion Air in October 2018 and the second with Ethiopian Airlines in March 2019. Ed Pierson, the Foundation for Aviation Safety executive director and a former senior manager at Boeing highlighted the significance of this impending decision.

Speaking on BBC Radio 4 Today, he emphasized ongoing issues with Boeing aircraft, specifically the 737 Max and 787 models, which he believes reflect deeper leadership problems within the company.In a 2021 agreement, Boeing agreed to a $2.5 billion settlement, with prosecutors promising to request the dismissal of a criminal charge after three years if Boeing complied with specific conditions outlined in the deferred prosecution agreement.

Boeing’s CEO, Dave Calhoun, faced intense questioning from U.S. senators regarding the company’s corporate culture. At the same time, he apologized to the families of plane crash victims, who vocalized their anger throughout the hearing., Calhoun stated that the company had “learned” from its past mistakes and claimed that the process for team member whistleblowers “works.
