In a pair of games with implications for the medal rounds, Alaskan Vicky Persinger and her teammate Chris Plys managed a split, overcoming a solid Chinese team but falling to Canada in mixed doubles curling at the Beijing Olympics.

The sixth end proved similarly messy, as both teams had a few half-made shots and missed opportunities. A great double takeout by Plys limited the damage China could do, and the U.S. duo opted to play defensively, ceding two points to regain the last-rock advantage known as the hammer. Unfortunately, some missed shots In the seventh end hampered the Americans’ ability to capitalize on that advantage, and they came away with a single point, taking a 7-5 lead into the game’s eighth and final end.
