The Transportation Ministry says continuous two-way traffic is expected to be maintained during construction, with one lane open in each direction
Improvements are coming for the Trans-Canada Highway’s Chemainus River bridges, with work expected to start in the next few weeks.
The $10.4-million contract for the project has been awarded to Kingston Construction Limited. Completion is set for winter 2024. Work will include seismic upgrades to both the northbound Arch Bridge and southbound Truss Bridge, along with deck and joint replacements and recoating on the Truss Bridge. The project marks the final phase of the bridges’ renewal, and is intended to extend their service life and reliability.The Truss Bridge upgrade will be done first, and work on the Arch Bridge won’t start until it is done, the ministry said.
It said there will be advance notice of traffic disruptions, including possible periods of single-lane alternating traffic and short, intermittent full closures.
