SYDNEY — Bus service and garbage pickup in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality have been put on hold Tuesday.
In a release issued by the municipality, Transit Cape Breton and Handi-Trans both are currently not operating due to a labour stoppage by CUPE 759, the union representing municipal outside workers. As well, some solid waste collection is underway but it will cease shortly as the disposal sites and solid waste facilities are not open.
According to CBRM spokesperson Christina Lamey, the municipality found out on Monday about the stoppage, but no further comments would be made available until later in the day. Instead, she referred further comments to CUPE 759 representatives on the reason for the stoppage.
