A Universal City man who fatally shot his ex-girlfriend's boyfriend in 2021 and called 911 while leaving the scene has been sentenced to 35 years in prison.

Responding Converse police found an unconscious Joshua Huron, 33, who had been shot multiple times in the 8800 block of Appaloosa Pass on Nov. 11, 2021. He died a day later at a local hospital. Officers knew where to find Vaughan Dale Skirvin. When he called authorities to tell them he had shot someone, he said he was driving to his home in Universal City and would surrender to police there. He also advised the 911 dispatcher that he had the firearm used in the shooting.
Skirvin initially was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, later elevated to murder. Now 29, he did not contest the charge in exchange for a 35-year prison term under a plea agreement reached between Assistant District Attorney Brittany Mitchell and defense attorney Jay Norton. State District Judge Stephanie Boyd found Skirvin guilty and sentenced him Thursday.“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Joshua Huron, his life cut short due to a senseless act of violence,” Bexar County District Attorney Joe D. Gonzales said in a statement released later in the day.
