ICYMI: Unique programs grow at CBE while province expands charters yyc yycbe abed
According to a report before Calgary Board of Education trustees this week, registrations for Career and Technology Foundations courses such as robotics, computer science, fabrication or design studies have spiked by nearly 16,000 new students in recent years, growing from 53,853 enrolments in 2020-21 to as many as 69,371 in 2021-22.Sign up to receive daily headline news from the Calgary SUN, a division of Postmedia Network Inc.
“The challenge though is that it’s not cheap to run these quality programs . . . steel costs money, appliances and equipment costs money, fuel costs money,” Vukadinovic added. Trustee Nancy Close also asked whether the CBE needs to do more to raise awareness of quality programming in unique pathways.“But there are parent questions of looking elsewhere to have that focus fulfilled for their children. And I’m wondering how do we change that perception, because I believe we offer complementary or even better courses related to STEM.
