Delmanor Aurora Retirement Home near Toronto. To qualify for the pilot program they had to agree to sell their gas-burning Chrysler 300 and not buy another vehicle.Maria and Joseph Poleto owned a gas-burning Chrysler 300, but they gave it up—willingly. That doesn’t mean the residents of theretirement home near Toronto aren’t still driving around.
“The choice of the vehicle is really important because they see Teslas, they see all these other cars that are just very intimidating when they're used to something very traditional and gas powered,” said Nikki Lewis, Delmanor sales and marketing director, in an interview. “So the Volvo has just been great just for its reputation, quality, safety as well as user ability.”
Since the pilot program began in May six residents have given up their cars in exchange for free use of an EV, according to Fineman. For Kite, the pilot program with Delmanor Aurora is in line with its overall business of promoting clean mobility. The Toronto-based company partners with real estate developers to provide electric cars, ebikes and a charging infrastructure so they can offer short-term rentals through the Kite mobile app to their residents.
