A three-year term would reset the bargaining clock for hourly workers at Ford, GM and Stellantis until September 2026.

Canadian auto workers’ union Unifor will be seeking three-year collective agreements with Ford, General Motors and Stellantis in bargaining talks that begin Aug. 10.

Unifor confirmed to Automotive News Canada it would be pursuing three-year terms in this year’s bargaining, without providing further details. This summer, the two unions’ contract talks with the Detroit Three will coincide for the first time since 1999, adding another element to the patterned bargaining strategies employed by both unions.

Unlike Unifor, which will seek to keep its contract term short, the UAW plans to pursue a deal that will lengthen its typical four-year term by eight additional months. Sources familiar with the UAW’s thinking told Automotive News last week that the union is pursuing agreements that will expire May 1, 2028.
