Unifor served “notice to bargain” to all Detroit Three bargaining units June 28, and formal opening negotiations will begin in Aug. 10 at the Sheraton Centre in Toronto.
Contract talks between the Detroit Three automakers and Unifor, the union representing hourly employees at the companies, will formally begin Aug. 10, the union says.
Unifor served “notice to bargain” to all Detroit Three bargaining units June 28, and formal opening negotiations will begin in August at the Sheraton Centre in Toronto. Pensions, wages, transition plans to electric vehicle production and new investment will top the list of priorities. They were borne of out of the union’s a new vision for the future of Canada’s auto sector called “Navigating the Road Ahead,” a policy Unifor released last year.
“Every round of auto talks presents unique challenges and opportunities. In this round, we will work to build on historic gains made in 2020 bargaining and continue the momentum created over the past three years,” Unifor said in a statement.Unifor has not yet announced which company it will select to set the contract pattern for the remaining rounds of bargaining with the other companies. The union traditionally makes that announcement on or around Labour Day.
