The U.N. Security Council voted Friday to conclude, one year from now, an investigation into the activities of Islamic State extremists in Iraq, as requested by the Iraqi government.

Britain’s U.N. Ambassador Barbara Woodward told the council that the U.N. team has supported the excavation of mass graves, facilitated the return of remains to the families of victims, and worked closely with Iraqi judges and prosecutors, particularly on collecting evidence.

The U.N. Security Council has unanimously approved the conclusion of a one-year investigation into the actions of Islamic State extremists in Iraq. Woodward said Britain will work with the Iraqi government to continue the U.N. team's"legacy, both in Iraq and around the world."
