The UN, scrambling to raise $4.2 billion to provide humanitarian assistance in Yemen, has announced that $2.6 billion in pledges had been made
The news that access had been possible came as the UN urged countries to provide unprecedented levels of support to help Yemenis caught up in the world's worst humanitarian crisis.
He pointed in particular to significant donations from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, the two main countries in a coalition supporting the government side in Yemen's conflict. "Ultimately, Yemen's humanitarian crisis can only be resolved when donor governments end their involvement in the war and hold the warring parties accountable for their atrocious conduct endangering the lives of millions," Charles Gaudry, programme manager for MSF in Yemen, said in a statement.Guterres denied that it was problematic to receive so much funding from major parties in the conflict.
