Netflix has released a series of new images from The Umbrella Academy season 3, featuring both returning and new cast members. The hit Netflix superhero series is based on Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá's comic book series published by Dark Horse Comics. The Umbrella Academy follows a family of childhood superheroes forced to avert the oncoming apocalypse following the death of their neglectful adoptive father.
After preventing the apocalypse twice and being transported to the 1960s, the Hargreeves family returned to the present in The Umbrella Academy season 2 finale, but not the present they remember. After arriving in their reconstructed childhood home, Viktor , Luther , Diego , Allison , Klaus , and Five come face to face with a now-alive Ben , their father Sir Reginald , and a new team, the Sparrow Academy.
As teased in its SXSW teaser trailer, The Umbrella Academy season 3 will see the original Umbrella Academy class clash with their new timeline counterparts. Raver-Lampman teased in an interview in February 2022 that the story of season 3 will go beyond anything that fans had seen before, explaining that The Umbrella Academy is defining itself as its own story not beholden to its source material.
The Umbrella Academy season 3 is set to be a huge step into unknown territory for the Hargreeves family. Not only are the siblings trapped in a strange new world with potentially heartbreaking revelations, but they are facing a possible threat they have very little experience with. With the exception of Lila and Viktor's brief period as a potential cause of the apocalypse, the Hargreeves siblings have mainly had to deal with unpowered threats and their own traumas.
