Ukrainian group condemns Russians participating in Edmonton Heritage Festival yeg

The UCC went on to demand the festival’s board reconsider its decision since allowing Russians to participate “sends a disturbing message that the festival supports or condones such actions.” The group is also calling on Canadians to express their concerns to the EHF board. “We acknowledge and respect the contributions of all communities to the cultural fabric of Canada,” the release continued. “However, considering the grave human rights abuses perpetrated by the Russian government, it is essential that we hold accountable those who perpetrate violence and undermine the principles of peace and justice.”
The Russian pavilion awas approved to take part in the 2022 festival, too, but pulled out about six weeks before the event.
