In a significant setback in the Kremlin’s campaign to control southern Ukraine, soldiers were moved out of the western bank of the river dividing the Kherson region. Russia’s defence ministry confirmed today in a statement carried by Russian state news agencies that the withdrawal was completed 5am today.Video footage showed Ukrainians across the now liberated region restoring Ukrainian flags and tearing down ‘Russia is here forever’ billboards.
Some Kherson civilians gathered in the city’s central square holding Ukrainian flags, while a podium where a Ukrainian flag was once flown was wrapped in a yellow and blue banner.
