New data shows that 417,000 work days were lost this past October in the United Kingdom as labor disputes have struck the public sector.

LONDON, Dec 13 – The United Kingdom recorded the highest number of working days lost to labour disputes in October for more than 10 years, official data showed on Tuesday, as employees went on strike to demand higher pay in the face of soaring inflation.

Mick Lynch, general secretary of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union , center, joins the members of rail workers during a strike outside Euston station in London.The Office for National Statistics said 417,000 working days were lost to strikes in October, the highest since November 2011 when just under a million days were lost due to public sector workers walking out in a row over pension reforms.

Members of the Fire Brigades Union take part in a rally regarding possible future strike action linked to a pay dispute., the government has so far refused to budge on public sector pay and is instead looking to tighten laws to make it harder for those in key sectors to strike.
