UCP dedicates $4M to create office combatting human trafficking abpoli
Smith detailed a series of recent human trafficking charges in both Calgary and Edmonton, and said that between 2011 and 2021, more than 3,500 incidents of human trafficking were reported across Canada.
The Alberta Human Trafficking Task Force submitted its final report in August 2021, including five primary recommendations for government to assist in combating human trafficking. April Eve Wiberg and country artist Paul Brandt greet Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek as Premier Danielle Smith and Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Services Mike Ellis announced further steps to fight human trafficking.The location and staffing levels of the office have not yet been determined, but it will receive up to $4 million over two years.
“The first step to fighting human trafficking is to raise awareness of the issue and its presence right here in Alberta,” said Public Safety and Emergency Services Minister Mike Ellis.
